TABLE TALK VOL 24

Setting the Scene for Mother's Day

Mother's Day is just a week away, and if you're planning to host a brunch, lunch, or dinner for your mom or the mother figures in your life, let's chat about
tablescapes for your celebration.

Pastels, of course!

Pastels have always been the go-to color palette to represent the spring season. Soft lilac, blush pink, buttery yellow, powder blue, and mint green are the colors of the season. Whether you mix two or three of these shades or build around one color, pastel tones create that light, airy, "garden party" vibe. Use these colors in your table linens, dinnerware, glassware, and or decorations. For example, pair crisp white linens with blush pink dinnerware and a floral centerpiece in a mix of pastels (try yellow and peach carnations, blush and lavender roses, blue hydrangea, and eucalyptus).

Layering is always key!

Layering different plate patterns in complementary tones, mixing vintage-inspired pieces with modern ones, or pairing patterned napkins with solid color chargers. The key is to keep one unifying thread running through it all, think mint green wide-striped tablecloth, floral dinnerware, and polka-dot napkins. Keeping the same color throughout the different patterns creates cohesion and makes the table feel curated rather than chaotic. For a centerpiece, try cream and blush roses, with sprigs of leatherleaf, and spiral eucalyptus.

Cater to Mom's Personality!

Not every momma is a "soft pink and peonies" kind of woman. Some are spicy, bold, and whimsical. Lean into what she likes and warms her heart. If she loves deep, moody colors, go for it. Try black table linens, charcoal dinnerware, silver chargers and flatware, and a bold floral arrangement such as a mix of burgundy roses and scabiosa, and blue thistle. If she's a lady who loves whimsy, try a bright orange and hot pink patterned tablecloth, yellow and white striped napkins, and blue or teal dinnerware. For a centerpiece, go for fuchsia and yellow roses, sunset orange carnations, and fern leaves, in a compote-style vase.

Don't Forget Your Personal Touches

Personalized place cards, a small favor at each setting, a menu card of all of your mom's favorite foods, beverages, and desserts, can take a table from just pretty to truly memorable. These little details show your guests that their presence is appreciated.

At Grace of Design, we carry a beautiful range of quality tableware and decorations, so you can set a gorgeous table without the cleanup stress. Because honestly, the goal is for everyone (including you!) to enjoy the day.

If you're hosting a Mother's Day celebration and plan to use any of these ideas, drop a comment and let us know. We'd love to see and hear how the day went.
